Smartphone maker OPPO says it will be the first to launch a 5G smartphone running on the new Qualcomm 5G chip available in Q4 2019.

Launched at the IFA Berlin 2019, the new Qualcomm 5G chip integrates 5G baseband and the 5G modem into the processors. The chip has strong AI capabilities and is optimised for gaming.

Ethan Xue, president of OPPO MEA, said: “OPPO has always strived to provide its customers across the globe with the latest and most advanced technology. Launching the world’s first smartphone supporting the new Qualcomm 5G chip reinforces OPPO’s commitment to delivering a seamless and exceptional user experience through its unique and premium products.”

The Qualcomm 5G chip will have 5G integrated into a SoC (System-on-Chip) and supports all key regions and frequency bands. Built on 7nm process technology, the chip is designed to bring premium-tier features to a broader audience.
