Ericsson 5G roadshow makes Oman stop
Oman Telecom Authority, Omantel and Ericsson showcase applications for 5G
Ericsson in association with Oman Telecom Authority and Omantel is hosting a 5G event in Muscat, where visitors can experience a range of 5G use cases from smart cities to virtual, augmented and mixed reality.
The demos display how 5G-capabilities such as low latency and high data rates, combined with augmented reality (AR), can enable new real-time applications and services.
Use cases included 5G Football demo highlighting how 5G will transform gaming. In addition, City Model demo presents flexible and cost-effective solutions for businesses, charting the potential of using today's infrastructure to build tomorrow's 5G networks. Other demos included the Augmented Reality Carousel, which outlines how the digital transformation of different industries will be powered by 5G and IoT using tools such as AR.
Engineer Mohammed Al Kindi, Vice President of Oman Telecom Regulatory Authority said, “5G use-cases are moving from the realms of the imagination to the realms of reality. We are certain that innovative companies of the future are going to be built on 5G technology. Today’s event is in alignment with TRA commitment of creating the right regulatory environment that is aimed to foster technology innovation.”
In the 5G era, mobile communications service providers anticipate the ability to provide scalable and intelligent services through open and globally standardised technology. It is forecasted to be a change-maker affecting various key sectors such as healthcare, mining, and agriculture to name just a few.

The technology roadshow is taking place on June 26-27, 2019 at Telecommunications Regulatory authority building in Muscat.
