What is your current role in the ICT industry and what are your responsibilities?

I joined Riverbed as senior vice president (SVP) sales, for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in October last year. I’m responsible for the company’s sales strategy and go-to-market execution in EMEA, leading the team across its five EMEA markets to ensure closer engagement with existing customers; deepen penetration into key industry sectors; as well as generating new business opportunities with strategic partners.

What is the best thing about your job?

It is being at the heart of improving customer and colleague experience with our clients and working with an energised team here at Riverbed.

How innovative do you think the network industry in the Middle East is and how can it improve?

Some positive developments include the increasing uptake of IoT and regional telecom operators demonstrating their eagerness to be among the first in the world to roll out 5G network services. It’s evident that they are doing so with a clear understanding that networks are a critical backbone for success, as they have focused on orchestration, automation and enabling granular visibility.

What are the upcoming trends or products in your sector?

If I were to pick on two upcoming trends, they would be 5G and a greater emphasis on security. Approaching fast over the horizon in 2019 and onwards through 2020, is the development and adoption of 5G networks. The agility and ubiquitous network connectivity enabled by SD-WAN, combined with 5G, will bolster the growth in IoT (yet another trend), as well as expansion of businesses into geographies previously considered unviable due to limited, cost-effective bandwidth.

Does your company utilise virtualisation or cloud computing and if so what products/ implementations do you have?

All our employees can take advantage of our SteelHead WAN optimisation to key applications, both in the SaaS cloud, as well as between offices. As a global company, all our offices around the world are connected using our SteelConnect SD-WAN solution, taking advantage of internet connectivity where possible. To minimise hardware footprint and maximise IT coverage, many of our branch offices utilise SteelFusion, providing a hyper-converged, SD-branch, and capability to host virtualised services essential to the local users.

What are your out-of-office hobbies?

Family, walking our dogs, North Coast of Cornwall, England, community sport.
