Extreme Networks has announced a new series of its Summit Wireless Mobility (WM) products, a modular wireless LAN platform that has security and management capabilities for wired and wireless networks. According to the company, the Summit WM-series switches combined with Altitude 350-2 Access Points (APs) can provide a secure, reliable and scalable wireless LAN solution for voice, video and data applications.
The Summit WM product offering includes the Summit WM200 and Summit WM2000 switches. For smaller installations, the Summit WM200 supports up to 50 APs in its baseline configuration with the option to be upgraded to support 100 APs. The WM2000 switch can scale to support large WLAN installations with capacities of up to 200 APs per controller.
The products offer a scalable architecture to support a single roaming domain. In addition, it supports branch office deployments where wireless user traffic can be bridged locally.
The system also allows the deployment of business-critical applications with unified security policy management and a serviceable modular architecture. Consistent security policies are provided through integration with Extreme Networks Network Access Control (NAC) solutions, including Extreme Networks Sentriant AG appliance to provide consistent captive portal web-based login and standards-based 802.1x.
Summit WM has configurable Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities and support for 802.11e QoS standards such as Call Admission Control (CAC), QoS Basis Service Set (QBSS) and Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (U-APSD) for longer battery life.
